3/5/2017

There is now an East of England ESOL Regional Coordinator for the Syrian Resettlement Programme (SRP) - Gill Searl. Her role has been  to undertake a mapping exercise of all the ESOL provision whether formal (leading to a qualification) or informal across the region.  Within the informal provision some is run by paid teachers but other provision by volunteers either in a group situation or in people's home 1;1 or 1:2.

She is now looking to facilitate the setting up of provision across Hertfordshire.

The government has allocated additional funding for those in Syrian Resettlement programme to enable them to have more intensive tuition for 6 months. ( about 10-15 hrs) a week. Her recommendations are that formal and informal are combined to provide an intensive programme

Please see below for job description for 1:1 paid teachers for those refugees not able to attend classes. She is also looking for ESOL volunteers.

If you are interested in either teaching or volunteering contact her at gill.searl@pcvs.co.uk.

HWSF have also set up an informal network for ESOL so let us know how you get on and we will add you to our list for training or networking events.

Please feel free to pass this to anyone you think might be interested.

Kind regards

Irene Austin

It was really good to see that someone has been there to help the people in need that are being living in terror. I hope that one day there will be peace for every person to live there.
